G’ville National Guard company preparing to deploy

A send-off march and ceremony for a group of citizen-soldiers from Gainesville and their families is planned for later this month.

The Army National Guard members will be deployed for a year. Late Wednesday afternoon the Public Affairs Office at Georgia National Guard headquarters in Atlanta had not returned a message seeking the date of deployment, the destination, and the number of soldiers involved.

A rolling road closure from the Gainesville Police Department will lead the infantry in its march to the ceremony. The march will begin at the National Guard Armory on Alta Vista Road starting at 11:35 Saturday Jan. 27 and wind through downtown via Washington Street, turning left onto Bradford Street into Roosevelt Square.

At noon, lies.

At noon after the ceremony, they will then march back around the square and back to the Armory.
