A Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputy arrested a Gainesville man on Thursday afternoon for allegedly financially exploiting an elderly person over the past week and a half.
HCSO NARRATIVE:
“The deputy charged Marvin Glenn Carruth, 51, with exploitation of an elderly person, a felony. Carruth is also charged with three counts of fourth-degree forgery and one count of obstruction of an officer, all misdemeanors.
At approximately 11 a.m. Thursday, the deputy responded to a residence on Calvary Drive to take a theft report. According to the preliminary investigation, Carruth used approximately $730 of the victim’s funds without her permission by forging her signature on three checks. The crimes against the 88-year-old female victim happened between Jan. 13 and Jan. 23. Carruth resides with the victim.
As the deputy informed Carruth he was under arrest, Carruth pulled away from him and walked out the door to the house. Outside, the deputy gained control of Carruth and safely secured him in the patrol vehicle for transport to the Hall County Jail.
Carruth remained in jail on $8,850 bond on Friday morning…”
