Gville, Hall schools use alert systems similar to Barrow Co.’s

When the shooting began Wednesday at Apalachee High School in Winder, several teachers pressed a button on their ID badges which alerted school officials, 911 and law enforcement agencies.

The system is used throughout the Barrow County School District (BCSD) and similar systems are used in he Gainesville and Hall County districts as well.

“The district uses SaferWatch as its panic alert system,” a Hall County schools official said Friday. “SaferWatch allows users to initiate lockdown procedures campus wide from their cell phone. When utilized a text message, phone call, and email go to all team members on campus, SROs, and district leadership. At the same time a call is sent to 911 and emergency management for law enforcement response.”

And the Gainesville school district? “We use Centegix and have used it since the 2020-2021 school year,” Supt. Jeremy Williams said Friday.

Centegix is also the panic button used in Barrow County and the sheriff there has said that’s how he first learned that something was going on at the school.
