GSP releases details of wreck that caused power outage

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Saturday released details of a traffic accident last week that left part of west Gainesville in the dark for several hours.

The investigating trooper’s report says that the driver of the only vehicle involved in the crash said his pickup left Memorial Park Drive near Browns Bridge Road and struck a utility pole after he blacked out. The 55-year-old added he had not been “feeling good for several days and began coughing heavily” just prior to blacking out.

He was not injured in the crash but an 18-year-old in the car with him suffered minor injuries and was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville for treatment.

The accident happened Wednesday night.
