GSP: Fishtailing trailer caused chain-reaction wreck on 985

A pickup pulling a trailer that began fishtailing touched off that chain-reaction accident that disrupted rush-hour traffic on a part of I-985 Tuesday afternoon, according to the state patrol.

STATE PATROL NARRATIVE:

“…Troopers were dispatched about 5:30 to the scene of a crash on I-985 northbound at SR 11.

The initial investigation revealed that a Ford Ranger, driven by Raul Cadena-Gallardo (64, of Atlanta,) was traveling north in the right lane while towing a 5×8 utility trailer loaded with lumber. The driver lost control of the vehicle due to the trailer swaying, causing the Ford to overturn and come to rest on top of the guardrail…

The crash involving the Ford Ranger resulted in a secondary collision directly behind it…involving several other vehicles.”

Eleven people were injured, none seriously, but seven were taken to a hospital.
