Grant OK’d for weather warning system in Helen

Helen will be getting a weather warning system similar to the one in place in Hall County thanks to some federal money coming out of Washington.

FEMA has approved $141,000 for the installation of warning sirens. The agency FEMA is funding this project at no less than a 75% federal cost share through its Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.The mitigation assistance provides funding for eligible long-term solutions that reduce the impact of disasters.

Hall County’s weather warning system was installed following a tornado that hit the county 1998 causing millions of dollars in damages and killing several people.
