GPD: Two women charged in axe attack

Two women remained in the Hall County Jail Tuesday night after they were arrested over the holiday weekend and charged with threatening a man with an axe. Gainesville Police released details of the incident earlier in the day Tuesday.

“Assaulted a male subject after an argument at a local motel,” police spokesman Kevin Holbrook wrote in an email.  “Allegedly threatened subject with an axe.” Holbrook offered no other information about the incident, including an apparent motive.

Laura Beatrice Rios, 46, is being held on a $6,800 bond, charged with Aggravated Assault/Cutting. She was arrested on a Gainesville Police warrant Friday afternoon in the 1100 block of Jesse Jewell Parkway by Hall County sheriff’s deputies, according to a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.

Also facing a similar charge but being held without bond is 23-year-old Abigail Anne Lafreniere.
