GPD: Knife-wielding man tased, ending confrontation with officers

A man charged with pointing a knife at Gainesville police officers during a confrontation at a homeless camp remained in jail Monday afternoon.

David McPherson, 44, is being held without bond. He faces two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of obstruction of an officer.

Police spokesman Kevin Holbrook said the incident happened Friday on Dorsey Street where officers had gone to conduct a welfare check.

Lt. Holbrook added there were no injuries and officers were able to take McPherson into custody using “non-lethal” means by tasing him.
