Gainesville Police are investigating a recent burglary in which items worth nearly $5,000 were reported taken and an armed robbery in which more than $9,000 was stolen.
Spokesman Kevin Holbrook said Wednesday the loss in the burglary totaled $4,760 and involved various items taken from a storage unit in the 2100 block of Athens Highway. The theft reportedly occurred between Christmas Day and last Saturday.
The robbery occurred at East Coast Metals on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. “Subject claims he was robbed by an unknown assailant, pulled a gun and demanded money,” Lt. Holbrook said.
No one was reported hurt in the incident, which occurred Sunday night between 9:00-10:00. Holbrook said he had no description of the gunman, who reportedly got away with $9,255.
East Coast Metals is described on its website as heating equipment supplier.
