GPD: Bank robbery suspect arrested after multi-agency collaboration

GAINESVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT (GPD) NEWS RELEASE:

“Abel Aguilar, 26, of Gainesville, Georgia was taken into custody in Gwinnett County, hours after he robbed a Wells Fargo bank. Aguilar entered the bank (on Browns Bridge Road) on January 2, 2024, handed the teller a note demanding cash, and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Using investigative techniques and technology police determined that Aguilar had previously stolen a van in Gainesville prior to the robbery and used that vehicle to flee the scene. North Georgia law enforcement agencies began working together to track and locate Aguilar. He was arrested a short time later in Gwinnett County after attempting to flee from Suwanee authorities.

“The collaboration by multiple agencies from across the region to bring this suspect to custody was a driving force in this investigation. This shows the dedication and partnerships our law enforcement have across North Georgia to protect our communities,” said Chief Jay Parrish.

Aguilar is being held in the Hall County Jail on robbery, theft and theft by taking motor vehicle charges. Agencies assisting in this case include the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson Police, Commerce Police, Suwanee Police and Gwinnett County Police.”
