Goodwill smoke scare

The Goodwill store in Oakwood was evacuated Tuesday after smoke filled the building.

A spokeswoman for Hall County Fire Rescue (HCFR) confirmed Wednesday that the department sent trucks to the scene.

“This came out as an emergency but was downgraded once crews got on scene,” Kimberlie Ledsinger said. “There was heavy smoke coming from a light in the back of their warehouse. The crews on scene handled and it was turned over to their power company once the smoke cleared.”

Ledsinger added that it was her understanding that the store was evacuated, and the power was cut off prior to the fire department’s arrival.

Several Facebook posts Tuesday and Wednesday from people who said they were in the store at the time said it was filled with smoke and they were told to leave the building immediately.
