GHS principal leaving; Winder official resigns; body found in Habersham; Habersham hospital scare

*Gainesville High School (GHS) principal Jamie Green plans to step down at the end of the school year. Green, who has held the post five years, plans to move with his family to Brazil, where his wife is from.

*Winder City Administrator Mandy Cody has resigned effective January 12. No reason was given in a city news release announcing the development which quoted Mayor Jimmy Terrell as saying she will receive a six-month severance package and the council vote to accept her resignation was unanimous.

*The body of a 21-year-old man was found at Lake Russell in Habersham County Wednesday. No foul play is suspected, and the cause of death was not mentioned in a county news release. The body was found in a picnic area about 7:45.

*Emergency personnel responded to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Habersham early Wednesday following a report of an odor of something burning. This happened about 12:50 and units left the scene about 30 minutes later. The hospital is a part of the Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) and a NGHS spokesman said the problem was with a fan belt on a rooftop HVAC unit.
