Georgia drought like a yo-yo

The drought in Georgia is like a yo-yo these days – better one week, worse the next. So, what’s this week’s score? Better.

While Hall and surrounding counties and most of north Georgia remain drought-free this week, the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) says, overall, drought conditions have improved over last week, when drought-free parts of the state were shrinking. That’s when 30 percent of Georgia was drought-free; this week, that number is 42 percent. But he intensity in those areas suffering from drought has worsened.

Those areas are primarily in the highest elevations, along the Tennessee and North Carolina state lines and a large part of east central, southwest and southeast Georgia.

And the level of Lake Lanier? 1071.4, down two-tenths of a foot.
