The state Department of Transportation (GDOT) is seeking input from Georgians on the draft Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) through August 15. Proposals for the 9th and 7th congressional districts, which includes Hall County, will be available August 11 at a meeting in Maysville.
Every three years, Georgia DOT works closely with the people of Georgia, local governments, and interested stakeholders to develop the STIP—a four-year plan outlining transportation and capital improvements across the state.
It includes federally funded projects statewide, except for those within Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) boundaries—generally areas with big cities. Projects are chosen through a process that considers state and federal priorities, available funding, technical analysis, and input from local governments, regional partners, and the public.
Those input sessions are scheduled 5:00-7:00 as follows:
- District 1: August 11: Pat Bell Conference Center located at 7020 GA-82 Connector, Maysville, GA 30558 (Jackson County, State Transportation Board Congressional Districts 4, 7, 9, 10 and 13)
- District 2: August 6: Sparta-Hancock Library located at 8984 E Broad Street, Sparta, GA 31087 (Hancock County, State Transportation Board Congressional Districts 8, 10, 12 and 13)
- District 3: July 30: Mike Daniel Recreation Center located at 1220 Lafayette Pkwy, LaGrange, GA 30241 (Troup County, State Transportation Board Congressional Districts 2, 3, 6, 8, 10 and 13)
- District 4: July 27: Margaret Jones Public Library located at 205 E Pope Street, Sylvester, GA 31791 (Worth County, State Transportation Board Congressional Districts 2 and 8)
- District 5: July 28: Wayne County Library located at 759 Sunset Blvd., Jesup GA 31545 (Wayne County, State Transportation Board Congressional Districts 1, 8 and 12)
- District 6: August 12: Pickens County Library located at 100 Library Lane, Jasper, GA 30143 (Pickens County, State Transportation Board Congressional Districts 3, 7, 9, 11 and 14)

- Note: District 7 is not included in the outreach efforts since the district is located within the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) and not located within the rural STIP regions.
Additionally, the official STIP website, offers a comprehensive and user-friendly platform where visitors can review the draft STIP at any time, including if they are unable to attend an in-person meeting, GDOT officials say. Using an interactive mapping tool, users can locate projects in their communities, review detailed project descriptions, funding sources, and anticipated timelines. The site also includes an online survey, allowing residents to submit comments and questions directly.
Whether online or in person, everyone has the chance to learn about proposed projects and share their feedback to help shape transportation priorities in their area. For those who prefer to review information offline and/or are unable to attend an in-person event, citizens can schedule a visit by calling their local district office during regular business hours, Monday-Friday. District staff is available to provide printed materials, answer questions, and offer personalized support to help residents better understand the STIP projects affecting their area.
