GDOT plans resurfacing of Ga. 9 in Lumpkin Co.; JHS threat leads to arrest of 15-yr-old; Habersham’s new Director of Finance

*The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has awarded a $3.7 million contract for a roadway improvement project in Lumpkin County along Georgia 9. It calls for 7.3 miles of resurfacing beginning south of Ben Higgins Road and ending at Georgia 60 Business and for the work to be finished by the end of next March.

*A 15-year-old was arrested and charged in connection with a threat against the school during one of his classes on Wednesday when interrupted it by threatening a shooting. Hall County School District (HCSD) spokesman Stan Lewis said there was no evidence that it was credible but that he will be dealt with accordingly by the district.

*Habersham County has a new Director of Finance. Kiani Holden began her tenure with the county 12 years ago and has been serving as Interim Finance Director since December 2024, when Tim Sims
left his former role as the county’s Chief Financial Officer to become County Manager.
