GBOE to hold two of three hearings on budget, tax rate Monday

The Gainesville Board of Education (GBOE) will hold the first two of three public hearings on a proposed tax rate increase and the budget for Fiscal Year 2024-25 Monday.

The first will be at 5:00 at school board offices on Oak Street. The second will follow an hour later at the same location. The third and final hearing will be held July 15 at 11:00.

The proposed tax rate is an increase of 6.24 percent which would result in a millage rate of 6.195 mills, an increase of .364 mills.

Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 5.831 mills, according to school officials. The proposed tax increase for a property with a fair market value of $425,000 is approximately
$153.97 and the proposed increase for a non-homestead property with a fair market value of $450,000 is approximately $163.80.
