UPDATE: Former Braselton police chief found dead at his home

SATURDAY 10:30 A.M. UPDATE:

Former Braselton police chief Michael Steffman is dead. GBI officials confirm Steffman was found in his home Friday, according to Georgia News Network. He was arrested last November after announcing his resignation and retirement. He was facing stalking, harassment and other related charges and was free on bonds totaling $13,000. The GBI, thus far, has not said how long he had been dead and the cause of death.

GBI agents spent most of Friday investigating a death at the home of former Braselton Police Chief Michael Steffman who was arrested last year on charges of stalking and harassment.

Police tape went up around the house about 6:00 Friday morning. 11 Alive reports it was not until almost 12 hours later that Law enforcement left the scene.

There was very little information released, including details about the death.
