Gas prices shoot up in advance of holiday

Georgia gas prices shot upward this past week in advance of the July 4 holiday. Same for Hall County.

AAA says the statewide average for regular unleaded today is $3.31 a gallon, compared to $3.26 last Monday. The increase in Hall County was even more dramatic – rising nearly a dime a gallon: $3.29 today versus $3.20 last week.

The national average, meanwhile, declined by a penny to $3.49.

“Summer got off to a slow start last week with low gas demand,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesman. “But with a record 60 million travelers forecast to hit the road for the July 4th holiday, that number could pop over the next ten days.  But will oil stay above $80 a barrel, or will it sag again? Stay tuned.”
