Gas prices at a virtual standstill

There was little movement in either direction for gas prices in Georgia including Hall County over the past week.

AAA says the average price of regular unleaded in Hall County today is $3.00 a gallon, the same as a week ago. Statewide, the average price increased but just by a penny. The national average is $3.18. That’s just a fraction of a cent higher than last Monday.

However, seasonal demand trends, higher costs for oil, and routine refinery maintenance will likely push pump prices slowly higher soon, a spokesman noted.

“It feels like being in a car with a cold battery, cranking away yet slow to turn over,” said Andrew Gross. “But gas prices will likely start increasing around Valentine’s Day.”

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand increased from 8.14 to 8.81 million barrels per day last week.
