Gainesville unemployment rate drops to two percent

Gainesville recorded an unemployment rate of 2.0 percent in April, down five-tenths of a percent over the previous month, according to the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL). A year ago, it was 2.0 percent.

The labor force increased by 229 and closed the month with 114,867, an all-time high. That number went up by 4,627 when compared to April of 2023.

Gainesville finished the month with 112,537 employed residents, another all-time high, up by 731 compared to March and by 4,450 when compared to the same time a year ago.

The rate for the 13-county Georgia Mountains Regional Commission (GMRDC), which includes Gainesville, was down four-tenths to 2.3 percent in April. For the Northeast Georgia RDC, which includes the rest of northeast Georgia, the rate was down three-tenths to 2.8.
