A Gainesville man remained in jail Friday afternoon following his arrest in South Hall about 24 hours earlier on hit-and-run, DUI and other charges
Dennis James Meloche, Jr., 44, was arrested at his residence on Cedar Hill Drive. The arrest came shortly after Meloche rear-ended a vehicle with his on Poplar Springs Road near Weaver Road.
“According to the investigation, Meloche had been driving erratically eastbound on Poplar Springs Road, closely following the victim’s vehicle, backing away and then getting close to the victim’s vehicle again,” Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) spokeswoman B.J. Williams said. “At one point, Meloche struck the other vehicle from behind. He then left the scene.”
However, Williams said, the victim followed Meloche to his residence and called 911. The deputy who responded said he noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from Meloche and the front of his vehicle had heavy damage “from the hit-and-run collision.”
As a result, the deputy charged Meloche with DUI, aggressive driving, following too closely and hit and run.
Neither driver was injured.
