Just days after the incumbent announced plans to run for Congress, Gainesville City Councilman Zack Thompson, says he’s running for the post Sam Couvillon is vacating.
Thompson has served as the Ward 2 councilman for almost 10 years having succeeded longtime councilman and former mayor Bob Hamrick who chose not to run again.
Couvillon announced Tuesday that he will seek the Republican nomination this year for the congressional post now held by Andrew Clyde (R-Jackson County).
