*A Georgia woman is among thousands missing in Nepal after massive flash floods last Wednesday. Mary Sorensen of Canton was on a pilgrimage earlier this month in the country. Her son says he last spoke to his mom last week before the floods. Scientists say the flooding was caused by a large glacier that broke off and fell into Langtang National Park in Nepal.
*The first debate between Keisha Lance Bottoms and Rick Jackson, hoping to become Georgia’s next governor, will be a live town hall session set for Oct. 6. It will be held at Assembly Studios in Atlanta, using a modified town hall format to allow undecided local voters to ask candidates questions.
*Legal access to medical marijuana is helping blue-collar workers avoid sick days. A new study co-authored by University of Georgia researchers data on over 20 million workers found medical marijuana led to a seven-percent drop in sick time. Within that group, missed days plunged by over a third specifically for factory assemblers, plant hands, and heavy machine operators. States with recreational laws, however, showed no similar drop in missed shifts.
