“At approximately 8:15 a.m. Hall County Fire Rescue responded to the 4100 block of Cumberland Point Drive in Gainesville. A witness stated that the residence was struck by lightning during the thunderstorms. Upon arrival crews found nothing showing from the outside of a two story residence on a basement. Light smoke was exiting the home’s vents just as a small fire was located in the basement. The fire travelled through the floor and up into the main level. The flames were extinguished quickly and Gainesville Fire Department assisted in the initial attack on the fire. No HCFR, Gainesville personnel or residents were injured during the incident. Three dogs were able to exit the residence in time as well. The official cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hall County Fire Marshal’s Office.”
