A mid-afternoon storm roared through Dawson County Friday, leaving behind downed trees and powerlines, power outages, and blocked roads.
At one point, the sheriff’s office Facebook page listed these problem areas:
*HWY 9 S from Perimeter to Jenkins is blocked to local traffic only due to trees down
*HWY 9 S from Thompson to Perimeter is also blocked to local traffic only due to trees down
*Red light on HWY 53 at Perimeter Rd is out causing a severe delay going into town.
Referring to the storm, one resident who responded to the posting declared “it was nasty.” Another said, “we had nothing on Dawson Forest….just some thunder and a little rain.”
As of late Friday night, there had been no reports of any structural damage or injuries.
But Amicalola EMC said it had 774 members “currently out of power across our service area. Over 400 of these outages are located on the West end of Pickens County” which also reported some storm damage.
