Fraud, Robbery, weapons charges

*A 33-year-old woman reports that she was the victim of a fraudster to the tune of more than $4,500 sometime between March 13 and this past Wednesday. She reported the $4,513 theft to police on Thursday, according to the Gainesville Police Department.

*Another woman, 35-years-old, reports she was also a fraud victim. This is a case of Internet fraud, a Gainesville Police spokesman said. The contact, he added, claimed to be a job promoter and the victim sent $5,000 before realizing it was a scam.

*Police have also opened an investigation into a reported street robbery. The 32-year-old victim says it happened late Thursday night on Jesse Jewell Parkway near Alta Vista Cemetery.

*And a 42-year-old man who was arrested Friday and charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana remained in the Hall County Jail at mid-morning Saturday. The marijuana possession charge led to two more serious charges: possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime (the pot possession) and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Any additional details on these cases will not likely be available until Monday at the earliest when local law enforcement offices reopen following the weekend.
