Former Lanier Islands CEO dies

Brain cancer has taken the life of a former CEO of the Lanier Islands Resort. Mike Williams died recently at the age of 59.

Williams recently retired as CEO of the resort where he spent 18 years. “His unique vision was the essence of everything fun at Lanier Islands,” reads his obituary.  A native of Gwinnett County who called Suwanee home, Williams had spent the last months of his life in Florida while receiving treatment for his illness.

Under his leadership, he was CEO for ten years, Lanier Islands added numerous amenities as it continued to grow over the years. Among them: additions to Legacy Lodge, redeveloped camping areas, a video screen in the water park, and Sunset Cove.

A Celebration of Life is planned March 15 at 11:00 at Peachtree Point at the resort.
