For want of his paycheck & a fear of running out of gas, motorist ends up in Hall Co. Jail

Hall County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Marietta man Tuesday morning after he refused to pull over for a traffic stop, who told them when he did, he was on his way to get his paycheck and was afraid he would run out of gas.

Deputies said they clocked a Hyundai SUV traveling 83 mph in a 45 mph zone around 9:20 on Queen City Parkway near Aviation Boulevard. With lights and sirens activated, deputies followed the driver, later identified as Carlos Calzadilla, 25.

Calzadilla slowed down but continued driving northbound, stopping at red lights and using turn signals before eventually pulling into an address on Rosewood Drive. The pursuit lasted about seven minutes.

Calzadilla told deputies he was on his way to pick up a paycheck and was afraid he would run out of gas before reaching his destination. He was charged with misdemeanor offenses including reckless driving, fleeing or attempting to elude, and speeding.

Authorities said Calzadilla remains in jail on an immigration detainer.
