Flowery Branch city staff recommending against Jones Rd. project

The Flowery Branch city staff is recommending denial of an annexation/rezoning request for a Jones Road tract where 144 new housing units are planned.

Carson Smith IV is asking the city to annex less than an acre which when combined with a 21-acre tract already in the city would clear the way for a development in the 6200 block of Jones Road consisting of 144 “single-family detached” units.

However, the city staff, in recommending denial of the request, said “It is staff’s opinion that the proposal should not be approved considering the overwhelming traffic on (nearby) Mitchell St will be caused by the proposed development.”

The issue is on the agenda for Thursday night’s city council meeting as is consideration of proposals by Georgia Safe Sidewalks to repair sidewalks in the Sterling on the Lake subdivision and second reading on adoption of a new city zoning map.
