Flood potential returns Mon., hot weather next weekend

There is an increased risk of flash flooding across north Georgia on Monday due to widespread and slowing moving showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). “High rainfall rates 1-2 inches per hour may also contribute to flooding.”

Fine-tuning that specifically to the Gainesville area, the forecast reads “A chance of showers before 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11am and noon, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon.”

No strong storms expected but the chance for rain is put at 70%, with new rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

And the heat?

The Sunday morning advisory covers Thursday through next Sunday, and notes that a large high-pressure ridge could bring above-average temperatures and high humidity. “Feels like” temps may approach 100 by Friday, though any shifting rain/storm chances could limit the heat.
