Flock cameras get credit for quick arrest in Barrow Co.

The man suspected of causing a bomb scare at a Barrow County Walmart was quickly arrested Wednesday morning thanks, authorities say, the Flock camera system in the county.

The sheriff’s office says that about 7:30 the suspect entered the Walmart on Atlanta Highway in Winder and warned that there was a bomb in the store and then left.

“Our Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) promptly initiated an investigation and identified the vehicle departing from the parking lot,” a Barrow County Sheriff’s Office news release says. “Utilizing Flock cameras, RTCC guided patrol deputies to the vehicle, leading to the swift apprehension of the individual within minutes.”

K9 units searched the store and determined that there were no explosives, and it was allowed to reopen.

The suspect’s name had not been released as of early Thursday morning.

The Flock cameras have been widely criticized in some circles in Georgia and around the country as a source for potential invasion of privacy and other misuse.
