*The Athens-Clarke County Commission has approved an ordinance that makes sleeping and camping in some public areas a violation of the law. onlineathens.com reports the measure was directed mostly at the downtown area, where homeless people sometimes sleep on streets and panhandle.
*Four people are facing charges following a human trafficking operation in Sandy Springs. Authorities say the two-day sting led to the rescue of an adult trafficking victim and three children being placed into protective custody. One suspect, Eric Dejuan Lightfoot, faces human trafficking charges. The other suspects, James Brandon, Na’Kaya Delzora Jones, and Tamera La’Shay Brasby, face charges including pimping, prostitution, and solicitation. Authorities have not said whether the rescued adult or children are connected to the suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.
*Five people have been shot and killed at a residence in Douglas, the city’s police department said on Saturday. No other information was immediately available except that the dead were discovered by police late Friday night. It was the third mass shooting in Georgia in two weeks. *Meanwhile, authorities have arrested a teenager, Khadarius Ray, 17, in connection with the deadly shooting in Vienna. Two people, 21-year-old Ja’Quavion Jackson and 23-year-old Macaleb Jackson, were killed in the Sunday shooting, while 35 others were wounded. Authorities say gunfire erupted during an unpermitted block party attended by more than 1,000 people. Investigators have not determined how many shooters were involved or released a motive, but additional arrests are expected.
*In Valdosta, a city police officer has been found dead at the town’s municipal court complex. His body was found Wednesday afternoon. No further details have been released. GBI is leading the investigation.
