Finally, after years of delays…

The second new nuclear unit at Plant Vogtle has entered commercial service, making Vogtleithe first new commercial reactor built in the U.S. in over three decades.

The two new units at Vogtle will produce enough electricity to power 1 million homes without emitting carbon pollution.

Despite years of delays and cost overruns, the completion of the Vogtle expansion project solidifies the plant as the country’s largest generator of carbon-free electricity.

But Georgia Power customers will bear the brunt of the project’s ballooning costs, with the total spending exceeding $35 billion, far surpassing the initial $14 billion estimate.
