FCSO: Teen kills self after being found in stolen police car

A 15-year-old boy shot and killed himself Monday night after Forsyth County Sheriff’s deputies stopped a stolen police car he was driving.

Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Stacie Miller says the office learned of the theft of a Sandy Springs police car just before 7:00 p.m. It had been taken from an officer’s driveway while he was not at home. About ten minutes later, Miller added, it was found on Peachtree Parkway near Sharon Road in Forsyth County.

“Forsyth County uniform patrol deputies conducted a ‘box in’ to stop the car near South Forsyth High School,” she said.  “The car struck the rear of a (deputy’s) marked patrol car.  Deputies realized the driver was not responding to their commands and appeared to be bleeding from the head.  Deputies quickly pulled the driver out of the car; noticed he had a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  They began life saving measures until Central EMS arrived and transported the driver to the hospital.”

The 15-year-old driver, later identified as a family member of the officer, was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
