Two people were killed, including a 19-year-old, Tuesday in Forsyth County in what the sheriff’s office says was a speed-related accident.
FORSYTH CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE:
“On March 12, 2024, at approximately 5:00am, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department were dispatched to SR 20 west of Sawnee Corners Blvd. regarding a two-vehicle crash. One vehicle had left the roadway, entering the wood line.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 19-year-old Edwing Morales-Perez of Alpharetta, was traveling west on SR 20 in the right lane. A 2017 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by 19-year-old Kayla Uribe of Cumming, was traveling west on SR 20 in the right lane. The two vehicles were approaching the portion of SR 20 where the two westbound lanes merge into one. It appears the two drivers were trying to get to the merge first. The Camaro was attempting to move in front of the Silverado and misjudged the clearance colliding with the Silverado. The Camaro left the roadway and impacted a large tree. Kayla Uribe and her passenger, 30-year-old Luis Rodriguez-Sigero of Canton, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Mr. Morales-Perez was uninjured; however, it was determined he was impaired by drugs and he was taken into custody for DUI drugs. Fault for the crash will be determined as the investigation progresses. Speed will be a contributing factor for both vehicles. The crash remains under investigation.”
