*A business in the 1800 block of Atlanta Highway reports losing more than $31,000 to an employee through embezzlement. The report, filed earlier this week with Gainesville police, says the theft occurred between Jan. 26, 2018, and June 17, 2025. The report was not filed until earlier this week.
*A rental truck firm in the city is reporting the theft of one of its vehicles at a loss of $40,000. The theft occurred about 2:00 Thursday afternoon and was reported that day.
*And police have opened an investigation into a 25-year-old woman’s report of the theft of items worth $3,000 from her car in the 1300 block of Burnam Woods Drive in Gainesville. It happened, the report says, between 11:45 Wednesday night and 9:30 Thursday morning. A description of the missing articles was not immediately available.
*The FBI is asking parents across north Georgia to help identify young boys secretly photographed by a suspect charged with possession of child pornography. Investigators say the suspect targeted male juveniles in public restrooms and at high school athletic fields in Gwinnett, Jackson, and Oconee counties between February 2024 and March 2026. The FBI is holding an in-person image viewing session Thursday. Authorities have not released the suspect’s name, identified the number of possible victims, or said whether additional charges are expected. EARLIER STORY.
