Gainesville’s Doug Collins was supposed to go before the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committe today for his confirmation hearing to be head of the Department of Veterans Affairs, but it’s been postponed until at least Jan. 21.
The committee’s chairman said the former congressman has fulfilled all of his pre-hearing obligations “in a timely manner” and has been “transparent and forthcoming” with the committee but that the FBI has not finished a background check on Collins.
The ranking member on the committee, Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), says he’s not sure of the reason for the FBI’s delay but that the materials are expected by the end of the week.
