The Flowery Branch City Council (FBCC) this week is scheduled to consider awarding a $375,000 contract for the conversion of the city office building into a Downtown Welcome Center.
The project will include public restrooms, eliminating an ongoing monthly cost associated with porta potty rentals—ranging from $775 to $3,715—and provide a more “permanent, hygienic, and accessible solution.” Currently the city lacks accessible public restrooms.
The city received four proposals for converting the space into a welcome center and plans to award the contract to F.H. Paschen, S.N. Nielsen & Associates, LLC was rated the highest. The firm currently
holds a contract for the renovation of Atlanta City Hall and completed the Valdosta Welcome Center renovation in 2013 along with various other projects. Flowery Branch has received a $100,000 Norfolk Southern Thriving Communities Grant which will be used to help pay for the work.
And with a March 1 deadline for doing so, the city council will consider opting out of Georgia’s new tax reform law, HB 581.
The council meets Thursday night.
