A 59-year-old North Hall man was killed in an early morning fire Wednesday at a house in the 5200 block of Bogus Road.
Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) spokeswoman B.J. Williams said one of their deputies arrived at the house around 12:50 after a caller to 911 report someone had been injured in an oxygen tank fire.
“When the deputy arrived, he observed thick smoke coming from a bedroom of the home,” Williams added. “The injured person, an adult male (later identified as Michael Steven Farmer), was in the bed.”
Farmer was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to Williams.
Kimberlie Ledsinger, a spokeswoman for Hall County Fire Rescue (HCFR), said the death has been ruled accidental “caused by smoking in bed near an oxygen tank.”
