Fatal fire; Food bank ribbon-cutting; Rabid raccoon

*Two people were killed in a house fire in Banks County Thursday night. Banks County Fire & EMS says the blaze occurred on Neal Road near Homer. Names of the victims, a man and woman in their 60s, have not been released. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

*The Gainesville-based Georgia Mountains Food Bank held a ribbon-cutting Friday for a newly completed $4.6 million, 10,000-square-foot addition.

*A rabid raccoon has been confirmed in eastern Forsyth County near the Hall County line. County officials say the animal was found Wednesday in the Crooked O Trail area and has tested positive for rabies. “The resident that reported the rabid animal did a great job of calling Animal Services to report the
possibly rabid raccoon,” said Forsyth County Animal Services Supervisor Haley Brown. “The prompt
report of the animal allowed for Animal Services to respond quickly and capture it for testing.”
