EHHS student charged with school bomb threat

A 17-year-old student at East Hall High School is free on bond after her arrest Tuesday on charges of making terroristic threats by posting a message on a social media account threatening to “blow up” her school.

Zakiyyah K’nae Butler, 17, of Gillsville, faces a single felony count of terroristic threats and acts, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), and is being charged as an adult.

According to the initial investigation, Butler posted the comment on Instagram Monday night about 11:45. The next morning, school administrators received a screen shot of the message in an email, and contacted law enforcement.

An investigator with the sheriff’s office went to the school and spoke with Butler. During the course of the interview, Butler indicated she made the post as a joke, according to the sheriff’s office.

She was taken to the Hall County Jail and booked and was freed on bond of $5,700 Wednesday night.
