*Three northeast Georgians are among 66 recent appointments made by Gov. Kemp to state boards, commissions or authorities. Lee Chapman of Gainesville, Jackson EMC’s Executive Vice President of External Affairs, has been named the 9th District representative on the Technical College System of Georgia Board of Directors. Kim Waters of Gainesville, a real estate agent with the Norton Agency, has been named to the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission. Mary Barrett, a former DFSC (Division of Family and Children) director in Barrow and Jackson counties, was appointed to the DFSC board.
*A Gainesville Police report shows that a 75-year-old woman says she was robbed of $22,300 worth of items from her home. The thefts, she said, occurred over the past two months by someone she knew. A police spokesman says she did not tell investigators why it took her so long to report the thefts.
In a separate incident, a 48-year-old woman reports an attempt to scam her out of $20,000. The woman says she got a phone call from someone claiming to be a U.S. Marshal who “requested (the) money for a warrant.” Instead of agreeing to pay, the would-be victim called police.
