Early morning shooting leads to manhunt, arrest

A Murrayville man is being held without bond in the Hall County Jail following a shooting incident at a residence in the 6000 block of Ben Parks Road Thursday morning.

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“Just after 6:30…deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) were dispatched to the scene of what they believed to be a burglary in progress.

When they arrived, they found a glass pane to the front door of the residence had been broken as the result of a bullet being fired through the door. The preliminary investigation indicated one of the adult residents of the home heard the doorbell ring and went to investigate when the gunshot was fired. The resident was not injured.

A K9 team was called to the scene and assisted with tracking the suspect to a residence a short distance away from the crime scene. The suspect was identified as a Canaan Joseph Doane, 18. He was taken into custody for questioning by HCSO investigators. The investigators were able to determine Doane, whose actions were captured on a doorbell camera, had gone to the house to confront another resident; the two are believed to have had conflicts in the past.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, Doane has been charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and acts, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and criminal damage to property in the second degree.”
