A 44-year-old Gainesville man, facing DUI, hit-and-run and other charges, remained in the Hall County Jail at last check following an accident Thursday at Sloan Mill and Poplar Springs roads. It left three people with minor injuries. The state patrol released a report on the crash Sunday afternoon.
The preliminary investigation determined that an SUV traveling northbound on Sloan Mill was following too closely and struck the rear of a minivan. After the collision, the SUV driver left the scene.
Deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office later located the driver, identified as Dennis Meloche, at his home. Troopers arrested Meloche and charged him with DUI, following too closely, hit and run, and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.
Meloche was not injured. A 69-year-old passenger in his vehicle suffered minor injuries as did the minivan driver and a passenger in her car.
