Divided HCC moving ahead with locating new courthouse downtown

Hall County Commissioners (HCC) voted tonight to ratify the purchase of the property at Grubbs Market in downtown Gainesville for a parking deck for a new courthouse, but it was not a unanimous vote.

And there was heated discussion among the commissioners before the vote was taken. Commissioners Kathy Cooper, Billy Powell, and Jeff Stowe voted in favor of ratification. Chairman David Gibbs and Commissioner Jeff Greg Poole opposed.

The purchase price: $1.575 million.

Also tonight, the proposed budget for FY ’27 was presented and will be voted on at the meeting on June 25.
