*The Democratic Party of Georgia is launching a major campaign effort ahead of the November midterms. A plan announced yesterday calls for 30 field offices across the state to open within the next couple of weeks. This will include around 160 full-time field organizers and staffers.
*Today marks the 30th anniversary of the Centennial Olympic Park bombing, a terror attack that killed two people and injured more than 100 others during the Atlanta Summer Olympics. The blast happened in a crowded entertainment area as thousands gathered for a concert. Security guard Richard Jewell spotted the suspicious backpack and helped clear the area before the explosion. Afterward, he was wrongfully targeted as the primary suspect by the FBI and media. The bomb was later linked to domestic terrorist Eric Rudolph, who pleaded guilty in 2005.
*Police in Albany are investigating after several Flock cameras were found damaged or destroyed. Deputy Chief Wendy Luster tells reporters they’re looking into why five cameras are now unusable. She says they believes some of the cameras were shot at from a distance after finding shell casings near the area were two cameras on Newton and Moultrie Road were destroyed. Luster says the cost to repair or replace each camera runs around $5,000.
*A 21-year-old man from Henry County is recovering after being bitten by a four-foot shark while standing in waist-deep water near Dunlawton Beach in Volusia County, Florida. The incident occurred on Saturday while Jacorey High was with his pregnant wife, whom he pushed to safety before fighting off the shark, which bit down on his foot.
