*A highly decorated Air Force instructor, who died after falling from the ceiling of the Alamodome in San Antonio Saturday, has been identified as Tech Sgt. Ian Patterson, who is from Georgia. It’s happened at the start of the UTSA football game. Patterson was performing a rappelling demonstration, and was descending 170 feet, as part of the annual Salute to Armed Forces and Veterans game. It’s still unclear what happened. He had been named the Air Force Special Warfare Enlisted Instructor of the Year back in 2022. He was a native of Fort Stewart.
*Hart County Sheriff Chris Carroll says his agency is investigating a series of false emergency calls targeting the same home. He tells WSPA deputies responded Friday and Saturday to reports of a double homicide, pipe bombs and other emergencies, only to find each call was fake. He says a juvenile at the home had been playing a video game online when another player threatened to send a SWAT team to their house. Investigators believe the incidents are examples of “swatting,” where false reports are made to trigger a large law enforcement response. Those responsible could face criminal charges.
*A Walton County Christian school teacher is facing child sex crime charges. 11 Alive reports 28-year-old Katie McDevitt was arrested last week for sexual exploitation of a minor. She works as a teacher and softball coach for Loganville Christian Academy. School officials say the minor is not their student.
*A freak accident is to blame in the death of a driver in Monroe County. A driver on northbound I-75 was killed when a runaway tire slammed into the windshield of his SUV. Preliminary reports from the sheriff’s office say the tire came off a trailer behind a truck heading south.
