For several years, Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson has been working toward something he feels could make a real difference for the people in his office. And the Dawson County Sheriff Foundation is finally a reality.
“The foundation was created with one simple goal: to give our community a way to directly support the men and women who serve Dawson County,” Sheriff Johnson says.
Through the foundation, donations can help support recruitment and retention, assist deputies and their families during times of need, recognize accomplishments, support the department’s K9s, provide training opportunities, and help with other needs that directly benefit the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) family.
But there’s more. Something the sheriff is especially excited about.
“The Dawson County Sheriff Foundation is approved by the State of Georgia to receive Qualified Law Enforcement Donations (QLED), Johnson said. “This program gives eligible Georgia taxpayers the opportunity to receive a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit for qualifying donations to the foundation, subject to program limits and requirements.
“In other words, there is an opportunity for eligible taxpayers to take money they would otherwise pay in state taxes and direct it toward supporting law enforcement right here in Dawson County.
“This foundation belongs to our community, and we’re excited to see what we can build together.”
