The Dawson County Commission (DCC) plans to increase property taxes by 4.5 percent over the rollback millage rate.
Each year, the Board of Tax Assessors reviews the assessed value of taxable property in the county. Georgia law requires a rollback millage rate to be calculated that would generate the same revenue as the previous year had no reassessments occurred. The budget tentatively adopted by the commission requires a millage rate higher than the rollback rate, which means three public hearings must be held before the board can finalize the budget and set the millage rate.
Those hearings will be held in the Commissioners Meeting Room at the Dawson County Courthouse and Administration Building. They are scheduled for Thursday at 11:00 and 6:00, and again two weeks later at 5:00 and 6:00. The commissioners will vote on the matter following the final hearing.
