Dawson Co.: Pedestrian upgrades around historic courthouse begin

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has started work on a pedestrian improvement project at the intersection of State Route 53 and State Route 9 around the historic county courthouse in Dawsonville. It’s expected to take six weeks to complete the work.

To minimize disruptions to local schools and accommodate high daytime traffic volumes, all work is taking place at night.

Improvements will include the installation of:

  • Concrete medians
  • New concrete sidewalks
  • Flashing pedestrian beacons
  • Milling and resurfacing of the roadway
  • A truck apron around the courthouse

These enhancements are designed to improve pedestrian safety and overall traffic flow in this heavily traveled area, GDOT says.
